Last modified: 02. February 2024

The Department of Soil Science (TT) conducts educational, research, and service activities in the field of soil science. The activities of the Pedology Group and the Soil Fertility Management Group are related to independent scientific areas, but together they create the conditions for scientifically oriented education in soil classification, soil mapping, soil sampling, nutrient management, soil improvement, and soil protection. The department actively participates in numerous related domestic and international research projects.

The main research areas of the Pedology Group include the examination of soil carbon sequestration capacity, monitoring soil health and condition with biological indicators, integrating modern soil sampling methods into practical soil science, and developing diagnostic soil classification systems as well as European, African, and Asian soil information systems. On the Soil Fertility Management side, research focuses on the investigation of nutrient release, short- and long-term analysis of the effects of organic and inorganic fertilizers, and agricultural use of waste, as well as the development and testing of new crop-enhancing materials.

The Soil Science and Agrochemical Laboratories affiliated with the department provide high-level analyses required for educational and research activities.

The department oversees programs such as Soil Science Professional Engineer, Soil Conservation Instructor, Precision Agriculture Professional Engineer, and Precision Agriculture Consultant in its educational capacity.
